Social Prescribing

What is Social Prescribing?

  • A public health strategy that recognises a persons health is often impacted by more than one element.

  • SP looks at social, economic and environmental factors, to improve people’s wellbeing.

  • Supports individuals to take more control over their health and try different types of therapeutic support other than, or in addition to medication… eg. local / community groups and services that are good for people’s mental, physical and social health.

  • In Frome and Mendip, there has been a big interest in green social prescribing via Mendip Health Connections and Green and Healthy Frome.

See the Mendip Health Connections Directory for a list of relevant local services and groups, including Wildcat Sauna :)

As there is no NHS funding for this, Wildcat has a Community Kitty added to by our community and with fundraisers. This enables Wildcat to fund free or subsidised sessions for those on low incomes.

See how to apply for this below.

If you’re a medical professional or connected to a referral service and would like to know more about Wildcat Community Sauna, please get in touch.

A woman relaxes in the cold plunge tub at Wildcat Community Sauna Frome. Eyes closed, she's surrounded by plants and that sauna van behind her is brightly painted.

How can I access “social prescribing” -> subsidised or free sauna sessions?

If you have a health condition and/ or are taking medication, please make sure you get professional medical advice before using the sauna & cold plunge (more info on our info page) due to the physical changes in bodies from higher & lower temperatures.

However, you do not need to be referred by a medical professional to request a low cost or free sauna.

We have a short form (link below) that asks some questions around your support needs. We’ve given one-off free saunas to try it out first, and short-term or long-term subsidies or free sessions.
